All reviewers' comments must be responded to, and suggested changes be made in the revised manuscript. The author should detail the changes made in response to the referees' comments and suggestions in an accompanying letter. If the author disagrees with some changes, the reason, supported by data, should be given. The editors may refuse to publish manuscripts from authors who persistently ignore referees' comments. A revised manuscript should be received by the editorial office no later than 2 weeks after the editorial decision was sent to the author(s); otherwise it will be processed as a new manuscript.
Editors and Editorial Members as Authors:
Editorial members or editors shall not be involved in processing their own work. Submissions authored by editorial members/editors will be assigned to at least two independent outside reviewers. Decisions will be made by other Editorial Board Members who do not have a conflict of interest with the author.
Types of Article:
The Journal of Pharmaceutical Scienses and Medicinal Research publishes Original Research Paper, Review Paper, Notes, Communications, News, Opinion and Perspectives, letter to editor or editorial commentary, technical and commercialisation note.
ESSENTIAL TITLE PAGE INFORMATION
The manuscript should begin with the title page followed by abstract and the main text.
Title page should include paper title, author(s) full name and affiliation, corresponding author(s) names including complete affiliation/address, phone, fax and email.
Title. Concise and informative. Titles are of great importance for current awareness and for information retrieval. The wording of titles should be chosen carefully to provide information on the contents and to function as "points of entry" for information retrieval. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible. The first letter of each word should be in capital letters except for articles, conjunctions and prepositions.
Author names and affiliations. Please clearly indicate the given name(s) and family name(s) of each author and check that all names are accurately spelled. Present the authors' affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names. Indicate all affiliations with a lower-case superscript letter immediately after the author's name and in front of the appropriate address. Provide the full postal address of each affiliation, including the country name and, if available, the e-mail address of each author.
Corresponding author. The manuscript must be submitted by the person who is in charge of correspondence at all stages of the editorial process, production, and post-publication, i.e. clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. This responsibility includes answering any future queries about the submitted or published manuscripts. Ensure that the current e-mail address and complete postal address is given and that phone numbers (with country and area codes) are provided. Contact details of the other authors must be kept up to date by the corresponding author.
Present/permanent address. If an author has moved since the work described in the article was done, or was visiting at the time, a 'Present address' (or 'Permanent address') may be indicated as a footnote to that author's name. The address at which the author actually did the work must be retained as the main, affiliation address.
There are no strict formatting requirements but all manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to convey your manuscript for examples Abstract, Keywords, Highlights, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Ethics Approval and Consent to Participate, Human and Animal Rights, Conflict of Interest, Funding Source, Future Perspective, Acknowledgements, References and appendices.
The manuscript style must be uniform throughout the text and 12 pt Times New Roman or Arial fonts should be used. The full term for an abbreviation should precede its first appearance in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement. The reference numbers should be given in square brackets in the text.
Section and subsection headings should be numbered sequentially and have the first letter capitalized, starting with the introduction. Main section should be number as 1.0, 2.0. 3.0,…, and subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc.
The abstract of an article should be clear, concise and accurate summary, having no more than 350 words that should briefly present problem and experimental approach and state the major findings and conclusions. Use of abbreviations should be avoided and the references should not be cited in the abstract. Ideally, each abstract should include the following information, but these may vary according to requirements of the article.
The headings can vary, but must state the purpose of the study, details of the participants, measurements, methods, main findings and conclusion.
A graphical abstract is most important but not mandatory, it is a concise, pictorial and visual summary of the main findings of the article, which can either be the concluding figure from the article or a figure that is specially designed for the purpose. A graphical abstract captures the content of the paper for readers at a single glance. Please add graphical abstract immediately after the Abstract.
5 to 8 keywords must be provided. Choose important and relevant keywords that researchers in your field will be searching for so that your paper will appear in a database search. The keywords should be contained in the title and they should appear several times in the article.
Highlights are important, but note mandatory, for this journal as they help increase the discoverability of your article via search engines. They consist of a short collection of bullet points that capture the novel results of your research as well as new methods that were used during the study (if any).
Highlights should be submitted in a separate editable file in the online submission system. Please use 'Highlights' in the file name and include 4 to 8 bullet points (maximum 100 characters, including spaces, per bullet point).
The Introduction section should include the brief background along with information on any previous efforts with corresponding references and aims of the research in a comprehensive manner. Avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.
Materials And Methods
Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced by an independent researcher. This section provides details of the methodology used along with information on any previous efforts with corresponding references. Any details for further modifications and research should be included. Sufficient details should be provided to the reader about the original data source in order to enable the analysis, appropriateness and verification of the results reported in the study.
It is important for the Method Section should be sufficiently detailed in respect of the data presented, and the results produced from it. This section should include all the information and protocol gathered for the study at the time when it was being written. Methods must be result-oriented.
The experimental procedures should be described in sufficient detail to enable others to repeat the experiments. Novel experimental procedures should be described in detail, but published procedures should merely be referred to by literature citation of both the original and any published modifications. The purity of key compounds and descriptions(s) of the method(s) used to determine purity should be included in this section. For buffers, use terminology such as "20 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.7) containing...". Also, state w/v or v/v when appropriate.
A calculation section must include experimental data, facts and practical development from a theoretical perspective.
Identification of and precautions for handling hazardous chemicals and dangerous procedures should be placed at the beginning of the section. An example would be "Caution: The following chemicals are hazardous and should be handled carefully; (list of chemicals and handling procedures or references)".
Manuscripts containing data generated from animal and/or human studies must specify the committee and the institution that approved the experimental protocols used to generate these data.
Repeated information should not be reported in the text of an article.
Results should be presented with clarity and precision. The important and main findings of the study should come first in the Results Section. The results should be written in the past tense when describing findings in the author(s)'s experiments while previously published findings should be written in the present tense. Tables and figures should be designed to maximize the presentation and comprehension of the experimental data. Attention should be paid to the matter of significant figures. The tables, figures and references should be given in sequence to emphasize the important information or observations related to the research. The same data should not be presented in more than one figure or in both a figure and a table. As a rule, interpretation of the results should be reserved for the discussion section, but under some circumstances it may be desirable to combine results and discussion in a single section.
The purpose of the discussion is to interpret the results and to relate them to existing knowledge in the field in as clear and brief a fashion as possible, i.e. this should explore the significance of the results of the work, present a reproducible procedure and emphasis the importance of the article in the light of recent developments in the field. Information given elsewhere in the manuscript should not be repeated in the discussion. Extensive reviews of the literature should be avoided.
The Results and Discussion may be presented together under one heading of “Results and Discussion”. Alternatively, they may be presented under two separate sections (“Results” Section and “Discussion” Sections). Short sub- headings may be added in each section if required.
A small paragraph summarizing the contents of the article, presenting the final outcome of the research or proposing further study on the subject, may be given at the end of the article under the Conclusion section.
Greek Symbols and Special Characters
Greek symbols and special characters often undergo formatting changes and get corrupted or lost during preparation of manuscript for publication. To ensure that all special characters used are embedded in the text, these special characters should be inserted as a symbol but should not be a result of any format styling (Symbol font face) otherwise they will be lost during conversion to PDF/XML comprising a list of items relevant to their specific research design. Chemical equations, chemical names, mathematical usage, unit of measurements, chemical and physical quantity & units must conform to SI and Chemical Abstracts or IUPAC.
All kinds of measurements should be reported only in International System of Units (SI).
Please ensure the figures included in the single file are placed next to the relevant text in the manuscript, rather than at the bottom or the top of the file. Ensure that each figure has a caption. The corresponding caption should be placed directly below the figure and not attached to the figure. A caption should comprise a brief title (not on the figure itself) and a description of the illustration. Keep text in the illustrations themselves to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used.
Please ensure the tables included in the single file are placed next to the relevant text in the manuscript, rather than at the bottom or the top of the file. Please submit tables as editable text and not as images. Ensure that each table has a caption. The corresponding caption should be placed directly above the table and not attached to the table. Number tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text and place any table notes below the table body. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in them do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article. Please avoid using vertical rules and shading in table cells.
If the study is funded or financially supported by an organization to conduct the research, then it should be mentioned in the Funding Section.
List funding sources in this standard way to facilitate compliance to funder's requirements:
Funding: This work was supported by the National Institutes of Health [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy]; the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle, WA [grant number zzzz]; and the United States Institutes of Peace [grant number aaaa].
It is not necessary to include detailed descriptions on the program or type of grants and awards. When funding is from a block grant or other resources available to a university, college, or other research institution, submit the name of the institute or organization that provided the funding.
If no funding has been provided for the research, please include the following sentence:
This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.
Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article before the references and do not, therefore, include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title or otherwise. This section should acknowledge financial support, technical assistance, advice from colleagues, gifts, etc. Permission must be received from persons whose contribution to the work is acknowledged in the manuscript.
Declaration of Interest
All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential competing interests include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding.
Authors must disclose any interests in 2 places: 1. A summary declaration of interest statement before references. This summary statement will be ultimately published if the article is accepted. 2. Detailed disclosures as part of a separate form for the journal's official records. It is important for potential interests to be declared in both places and that the information matches.
If there are no interests to declare then please state this: 'Declarations of interest: none'.
Literature references must be numbered in one consecutive series by order of mention in the text, with numbers as unparenthesized superscripts. The accuracy of the references is the responsibility of the author. The complete list of references should be typed double-spaced on separate page(s) at the end of the manuscript and follow the format shown. Use of DOI is highly encouraged. All references should include titles.

In case there is a need to present lengthy, but essential methodological details, use appendices, which can be a part of the article. The information should be provided in a condensed form, ruling out the need of full sentences. A single appendix should be titled APPENDIX, while more than one can be titled APPENDIX A, APPENDIX B, and so on. Formulae and equations in appendices should be given separate numbering: Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc.; in a subsequent appendix, Eq. (B.1) and so on. Similarly for tables and figures: Table A.1; Fig. A.1, etc.
We do encourage to append supportive material, for example a PowerPoint file containing a talk about the study, a PowerPoint file containing additional screenshots, a Word, RTF, or PDF document showing the original instrument(s) used, a video, or the original data provided it is inevitable or endorsed by the journal's Editor.
Published/reproduced material should not be included unless you have obtained written permission from the copyright holder, which must be forwarded to the Editor in case of acceptance of your article for publication.
Supportive/Supplementary material intended for publication must be numbered and referred to in the manuscript but should not be a part of the submitted paper. In-text citations as well as a section with the heading "Supportive/Supplementary Material" before the "References" section should be provided. Here, list all Supportive/Supplementary Material and include a brief caption line for each file describing its contents.
Any additional files will be linked to the final published article in the form supplied by the author, but will not be displayed within the paper. They will be made available in exactly the same form as originally provided only on our Web site. Please also make sure that each additional file is a single table, figure or movie (please do not upload linked worksheets or PDF files larger than one sheet).
Authors must clearly indicate if these files are not for publication but meant for the reviewers'/editors' perusal only.
List of Abbreviations
Abbreviations are a hindrance for the reader. Use as few abbreviations as possible and write out names of compounds, receptors, etc., in full throughout the text of the manuscript, with the exceptions given below. Standard abbreviations should be used throughout the manuscript. Unnecessary and nonsense abbreviations are not allowed. If abbreviations are used in the text either they should be defined in the text where first used, or a list of abbreviations can be provided.
Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Author agreement statement must be providing in separate form by accepting the following statement and signed by all authors:
“We confirm that the manuscript has been read and approved by all named authors and that there are no other persons who satisfied the criteria for authorship but are not listed. We further confirm that the order of authors listed in the manuscript has been approved by all of us.”
Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the journal Editor. To request such a change, the Editor must receive the following from the corresponding author: (a) the reason for the change in author list and (b) written confirmation (e-mail, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal or rearrangement. In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed.
The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism involves the act of using others’ work and trying to pass it off as your own original work. Essentially, plagiarism is stealing another person’s work or ideas. It can occur intentionally and unintentionally. It also includes self plagiarism, the manuscript content should not be submitted/stored in any URL/Database/Website before submitting to us for publication.
Examples of plagiarism:
- Copying and pasting from the Internet and posting somewhere else without proper citation
- Mentioning your name on another person’s essay or project
- Copying exact wording - varbatim - from another individual’s work / text
- Using another person’s tables, diagram,sounds,photo or ideas without proper references / citations
- Purchasing another person’s text and using it as your own
Plagiarism in all its forms as well as submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and are unacceptable by The Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicinal Research.
